...an ESRC Doctoral Training Centre

Doctoral Training Partnership

The South East DTC recruited its last intake of researchers in 2016 and will not be offering any further studentships.

The Doctoral Training Centres have been replaced by Doctoral Training Partnerships. The institutions that make up the South East DTC are now part of a new DTP known as SeNSS (South East Network for Social Sciences).  SeNSS is a consortium formed of 10 leading UK universities, all of which are engaged in cutting-edge social science research and training. The SeNSS consortium members are:
• City, University of London,
• University of East Anglia,
• University of Essex (the co-ordinating institution),
• Goldsmiths, University of London,
• University of Kent,
• University of Reading,
• University of Roehampton, London,
• Royal Holloway, University of London,
• University of Surrey, and
• University of Sussex.

Recruitment process for studentships starting in 2017/18 is now closed for applications.  For further information on SeNSS and how to apply for a studentship starting in 2018/19 , please go to www.senss-dtp.ac.uk.

The following provides essential information on the SeNSS admissions process for prospective applicants:

1. Speak to the School: Contact your prospective academic department and supervisor about your PhD plans.

2. Apply for PhD study by the institutional deadline:  Complete all admissions procedures to ensure that you successfully applied to your chosen SeNSS institution to study for a PhD by the appropriate deadline.  This will vary from institution to institution.

3. If Selected, complete the SeNSS online application form by the Institutional deadline:  If selected to apply for an ESRC-funded SeNSS studentship, you will be given the link and access code by your academic institution for the SeNSS online application.  Complete the application form (including the Equal Opportunities form) and submit it online (with your transcripts). You will also need a statement from your main supervisor and two references which your supervisor and referees will need to add to your application by the institutional deadline.  If these are not included you will not be able to submit your application .

The deadline for students to submit their online SeNSS applications is determined by the SeNSS partner individually for its own applicants. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU CONTACT YOUR CHOSEN UNIVERSITY, THAT IS, THE UNIVERSITY TO WHICH YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A PhD PLACE, TO CONFIRM THE  INTERNAL DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION TO SeNSS FOR FUNDING.

4. Online Application Check List:
     Complete Application form
     Complete Equal Opportunities Form
     Include undergraduate/postgraduate transcripts
Include statement from your main supervisor
Ensure your two referees have submitted their references
